Moving Forward Again
Hi all. Another crazy week has passed. I didn't have much time to play with the new shopping cart, PDG Commerce. I've been limited to lunch hours this week at my regular J-O-B. That is definitely one of the benefits of a web based shopping cart. For me, this means I can maintain my cart from work or anywhere else I can get on the web. This month being so bananas, it's almost the only way I've been able to get anything done. Just a little reminder that I don't have the time to learn web developement in it's truest geek form.... just yet.
So, how's it going with PDG Commerce so far? I've only begun to create categories and sub-categories to neatly classify my 5101 products. I started this overwhelming task yesterday using the Commerce Administration Panel. Having so many products that need images, categories, weight and other info, it didn't take long for me to realize I don't enough time to work this way.
Now what? PDG Commerce provides a nice tool for downloading my products into a csv file. I'm pretty excited about that. Today at lunch, I downloaded my file and I'm ready to edit my products in Excel... much faster for me. I will carry it with me on my flash drive so I can work anywhere I have access to a computer with Excel. My laptop is all but dead and awaiting replacement or I would be carrying that.
What else is new? Since last week, Carol and I have decided to purchase the upgrade to our Quickbooks POS software so we can have full benefit of PDG Commerce's integration feature. This will significantly cut down on our workload WHEN we finally get orders rolling in. I have the upgrade software and will be installing it Saturday.
What are we doing to prepare? There's lots of counting to do. We want to be sure our inventory is as accurate as possible if we are going to publish it on the web. Normally, we do cycle counting to assure accuracy. Before we go live, we are counting our best selling items just for good measure. It's all very exciting.... I can say this since I'm not the poor slob actually doing it...:-)
I'm also happy to report that the PDG Software support group and sales staff has been extremely helpful. I get good answers and fast. They also have a great User's Manual on the web as well as other documentation that a person might need.
We still have a lot of work to do but it feels good to be moving forward once again. I feel confident we will be able to maintain this heading and be selling products on the web very soon. Whew!
Till next time, Sandy
