Unbelievable! The Shopping Cart is Finally Back!
Hi again. What's so unbelievable? Our shopping cart is back online and available for shopping. I was beginning to think it would never happen. Now, that's not the only unbelievable thing here. I promised in my last blog that I would put the shopping function back last night. Let me tell you what happens when I jinx myself like that.
The day was looking pretty good. A day as normal as any other day. Life is good. Then Carol calls to tell me that our QBPOS is "making stuff up". Knowing that QBPOS programmers have probably not entered the world of artificial intelligence, no offense of course, I start taking the logical path. If you have more inventory in the virtual world than you have in the physical world, it's usually not too hard to narrow the possibilities. She didn't like that answer. I promised to look into it as soon as I could... last night... when I was supposed to be adding stuff to the shopping cart and adding the link back... remember all that?
Turns out it wasn't double vouchered, it wasn't entered incorrectly but... are you sitting down... QBPOS had SQUARED the quantity of every item on every voucher entry prior to our "upgrade" to QBPOS 6.0 in October. Yes, SQUARED. If we received 3, it put 9 into inventory... 5 puts 25 in inventory and so on. I really needed to be dealing with this tonight.
I was quick to call support as there was no possible way I was going to figure that one out on my own. After a short 2 1/2 hour phone call with a very nice and patient lady, we/she finally find out what happened. It's apparently a QBPOS upgrade software bug. Someone caught it and the fix was to have the computer enter an adjustment to correct the quantity, after the fact on a seperate entry, so we werent' supposed to notice those HUGE quantities in our item receiving histories.
How did we notice? Carol just happened to copy a voucher that was done prior to the upgrade... sometime after the upgrade.... and proceed to create a new voucher from it. That voucher didn't have the benefit of the cute little bug fixer that adjusted the quantity back to normal. I hope this makes sense to someone. If you happen to have this happen, I would be happy to attempt a further explaination. Or if you're having a hard time sleeping, it might help that too..:-)
The big fix? Unbelievable! There really isn't one unless you feel like re-entering everything in your database that happened after the upgrade..... four months ago for us. Plan B... I have a backup that was done on the day I upgraded... sometimes it pays to be anal. I'm going to create a second company file and restore that backup. Then if I need to look at a history that hasn't been whacked by a bug, I have one. From October 22nd on, it's fine. And all of the quantities are fine too.... after I fix this one voucher that was created from 3.0.
Whew! Clock is ticking... must run to work now.
Till next time,
Sandy
