HTML, Use It or Lose It
Hello all. Things are moving forward here again.... like a herd of turtles but forward nonetheless. I'm sure you are all as excited as I am about this. It's been a slow couple of months regarding our web site.... company... busy... work..... blah blah blah.
So, what kind of fantastic things have I done? Things you won't notice by looking at the web page. You will have to view the source to see it. I'll warn you, these are itsy bitsy baby steps. I think it might have been easier to recreate this web site from scrath but I decided to pick through the code created by Frontpage. It's like digging through a garbage dumpster. I guess you could say I've been dumpster diving this morning as I sit in front of the computer enjoying my soy latte...:-) Company is here again this week... shhhh.... everyone is sleeping while I play.
Keeping the baby steps thing in mind, here's what I did. I opened my index page (home) in Frontpage and went to the "code" tab at the bottom. This shows me what I've asked Frontpage to do when I used the WYSIWYG feature (design tab). Oh what a mess I've created. I have to remind myself that it works for now and I shouldn't get too freaked out.... breathe! I notice lines I created using the underscore... embarrassing when there's a cute thing called hr(horizontal rule) that will do that for you. Oh well.... moving right along here. I noticed a line of blank spaces trying to get something to justify to the right.... embarrassed once again.... it must have been the best I could do at the time??? I commented this line out and proceeded to accomplish the same thing using HTML. Believe it or not, it took me a few minutes to figure it out.
Did it work? YES it did.... after I got the book to be sure I was doing it right. It still doesn't look exactly like what we did in class but I was able to accomplish what I set out to do. I know it's not perfect and there's a never ending pile of stuff to pick through there but I'm happy to have a start on something..... finally!
Use it or lose it? I'm afraid so. I had to drag the HTML book out to be sure I was inserting the image correctly... that's bad. We did this every week in our class and it was old hat by the time we finished.
What now? More dumpster diving and adding products to the ecommerce side to sell. This will be a never ending process.... never ending.
In the meantime, yarn reps are starting to roll in with fall merchandise. I'm just getting used to the thought of spring! In two weeks, we attend the trade show. I had so much fun last year, Carol is going with me this time...:-) This will be fun!
Till next time,
Sandy
